Garry Disher is a master at creating characters who seem so real, we swear they ARE real, and we care about them.
The ending of this book was a surprise, and while it didn't end how I'd expected it to end, it ended in an entirely appropriate way - no happy ever after here, but a satisfying ending anyway, once I'd got over my surprise!
