I’m a bleeding heart liberal but when the entire last episode is so over the top predictable, it doesn’t make for a good watch. Personally, I find a show where everyone gets everything exactly as they want, with a bow on top and no struggle is kind of silly (and I do like Quentin Tarantino’s rewritten history movies so that in itself is not the problem). If this show makes others feel inspired or empowered, I guess that’s good. But pretty damn cheesy TV. And I also get the people who say that you’re brushing away a hundred years of racism and homophobia. It just feels really terribly written and poorly done.
That said, there are certain characters I liked, played by actors I love (Darren Chris, Jim Parsons). They did a great job and kept me entertained enough to finish 7 episodes (at least while laid off, stuck in quarantine with little else to do.)
I don’t often agree with Rotten Tomatoes but I think this one’s right. The people that like it seem to like the actors, costumes — the whole period piece of it (i.e. it’s pretty to look at). And that’s fine. You do you.
