I wanted to love this so much. Unfortunately I feel the area it needed the most help was the comedy. For the first 20-30minutes I was dying of laughter because Bert's style of humor is so fresh and new. That said, the movie just kept on with that same joke structure "the observational & situational" comedic moments without giving us any other flavors of comedy. If you look at legendary comedies like Old School, they are built with multiple flavors of comedy (Vince Vaughn, Luke Wilson, Wil Ferrel ect). Mark Hamel does absolutely NOTHING for this movie and it's really confusing why he's in it to begin with. Bert really needed that supporting role to be one of the many comedian friends Bert has with different comedic style.
I also expected it to not be a "play it safe" comedy. Any time a raunchy or potentially offensive joke arrived, Bert either apologized for it in therapy or they made it behavior of the Russian mob. It felt like a very play it safe move and it didn't give me that shock that many Tarantino movies do (a very high bar to compare to I understand).
All and all it's very above average, however, I will buy it on every medium because I want to support Bert and see him do more movies. Just bring more comedians to the table next time big man. Many of Bert's friends would have done a much better job than many of these C level actors.
