As Catholics my wife and I are very disturbed by the portrayal of the catholic priests and nuns in this series. We both grew up and attended catholic grade and high schools and never experienced this kind of behavior. While I've heard stories about this happening a century ago to native Indians, I do not see the necessity of showing this kind of brutality on TV and I think it takes away from an otherwise interesting and engaging series.
It appears to me to be another example of the entertainment industry's thirst for portraying Catholics and other Christian faiths as some kind of demonic sect. The entire foundation of many of the nation's greatest and most successful educational institutions were founded by many of the orders of the Catholic and other Christian faiths. Isn't it about time that we as a nation stop portraying our founding fathers and ancestors as brutal, narcissistic, greedy racists and bigots. Maybe we should look in the mirror at ourselves before we tear this Country apart.
