As someone who has watched hundreds of anime over the past quarter century, I cannot express enough how well ranking of kings is done. The animation is as if miyazaki and 80's disney produced an offspring that inherited the best qualities of both. Perhaps off putting at first glance in comparison to todays modern smooth glossy animation, it won't take very long to become enamored with this fresh take on older style animation. The characters are layered with development, in an often fast paced story that never feels rushed. It gains momentum quickly and never falls off. An absolute MUST see for studio ghibli fans.
