I'm from India that too from the far and small north eastern state of Sikkim with no any real knowledge of Victorian era British culture and tradition. I had read Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice back in 1991 as a college student and its characters had made lasting impression in my mind. It's unfair and incorrect to expect a movie to be a ditto translation of the book it is based on. But I can say that this movie is among those which have done the highest possible justice to the books they are based on. All the actors in the movie have been able to portray closely and consciously the characters from the original novel, the most outstanding being the characters of Miss Elizabeth, Mr Darcy, Mrs Bennett, Mr Bennett, Mr Bingley and Mr Collins. Big kudos to actress Keira Knightley for brilliantly portraying the character of Elizabeth who is a rare combination of beauty, intelligence, boldness, wit, charm, subtle innocence, compassion and the courage to be self-critical. Ms Knightley looks just like that in the movie. However the biggest credit for the making of such outstanding work should naturally go to the director Joe Wright.
