I went into this movie with prior knowledge of the original story because I had read the book and loved it. I expected this movie to be very true to the original book and was very excited to see one of my favorite books come to life. However, I was pretty disappointed with how much they changed the story. Half way through the movie I had to tell myself to enjoy the movie regardless of how different it was from the book. I was extremely disappointed with how the movie portrayed Victor’s parents. In the book, his parents are depicted as very loving and they both have a really good relationship with each other. In the movie it’s the opposite and Victor almost hates his father. I don’t really understand why the director decided to make that change. Also, the character Elizabeth underwent extreme changes in the movie that were not related to the story. Overall, the basic plot points were there but it seems like the director was worried Mary Shelly’s story was not enough and would not get much money so he made it super exaggerated and different. If you have not read the book, I recommend this movie because it is well filmed and has some very beautiful imagery in it. However, if you have read the book and are hoping this movie is just like the story, you will be pretty disappointed.
