I have been a die-hard borderlands fan since the first game. Every game is full of hilarious banter and witty one-liners. If you're expecting this movie to express the same calibur of humor as Gearbox did in the games, then you're definitely going to be disappointed.
The casting has many odd choices. Why is half the cast 40 years older than the people they are supposed to be playing? Kevin Hart as Roland? He was making short jokes instead of being one of the few serious characters. Lilith is not a Siren? They kind of just threw popular characters together with very little synergy.
With that being said, it was amazing seeing a live-action adaptation of my favorite video game series. I just wish that they hadn't rewritten so much of the lore badly like they seem to do with every adaptation lately.
I rated so low because the characters were just so cringey and the plot was vastly different to what you'd expect from Borderlands. They catered to a crowd of people who just played the latest 2 games, not their long-time supporters, and their box office of just $30 million reflects that.
