3 percent owned slaves...97 percent didn't..wars are fought by those who couldn't buy their way out of the draft in the north...and those that didn't own slaves in the south...the true reason for the war..is very similar to the divide we have today..one part of the country wants to force the other part to submit to their ideals...and one part of the country wants to strip rights from the other part
