Puzzled over the low ratings for this. It did take a few episodes to hook me; the first few episodes were tonally jarring, but it settled down in episode 4 and became addictive. The acting is fantastic, overall, with Christina Hendricks being the stand out. Is it pure to Wharton and not anachronistic? No, but that's part of the fun - it's an interpretation, and doesn't claim to be a faithful adaptation. For the record - I am beyond middle age, own a basement, but do now dwell there...
