I had really high expectations, but in addition to the notes made by others that this was a film to make us laugh about pedophilia (satire or not), I thought it was poorly scripted and somehow both very pretentious and very shallow.
The really interesting characters in the film never got a back story and the philosophical questions posed in the film were never explored.
I get that the director read about the Victorian era and tried to infuse the film with some of the really grotesque scientific ideas of the time. It could be used in a course about Victorian ideas about sex, women and the body. BUT, the film was so, so boring, including and especially the sex scenes.
