This should have just been dropped as its own original idea. Tying it to anything we knew about Mystery Inc was its biggest flaw and probably why it flopped so hard.
Velma seemed very rude and insecure, and less brainy than usual, but I suppose still okay at solving mysteries.
Daphne was just an absolutely toxic mess...and to make her a drug dealer on top of that? This show represents them as children, that is absolutely messed up.
Fred was a whiny rich spoiled brat. There was no real reason to represent him in this way, but I thought I'd still give the show a shot. Of course they had to go and make him racist as well. Any other representation of Fred until now was respectable, and a confident leader..this was just a messy thing to do to him.
Norville Rogers...I can't tell you how many tines I've cone across people saying that this character was inspired by Norville "Shaggy" Rogers....okay so it is indeed still Shaggy...but is it the scaredy cat bottomless stomach goofball we all knew and loved? Absolutely not. This representation shows him as a cool calm man who is in love with Velma. In terms of being a character he wasn't bad at all, but should not have been THAT character. I wish it was still someone who could hold that "Shaggy" nickname...but he seemed to care a little bit more about his appearance and keep that "Shaggy" title as far away as possible.. Anyway...they made him a likeable character, only to have him get his heart crushed by rude Velma every time he turned around. It was rough..
Honestly, I loved the story that they have, and I loved the animation. They did both of those really well.
And to get away from complaining about the way they twisted the characters, I feel like they had this thing for trying to make jokes about the series just so they could pretend they were bulletproof when it comes to negative reviews..usually I find that funny, but also usually I have seen that with shows and or movies that were done much better than this.
They honestly should have taken this series and avoided any association with Scooby Doo. It would have worked so much better for them. I couldn't stop comparing it to something it very clearly was not as I was watching..probably would have enjoyed it a bit better if it was an original idea with original characters, as that "stupid" or "cringey" humor usually is what I enjoy
