The story concept is interesting, but there is no "space" in the first episode, though an artifact landed, communicated, and humans traveled to another star. I mean, you in freaking space and everyone is arguing about control. Also, the humans' biggest fear was that the artifact "could hurt us." Really? Is that so bad? How many lives have WE destroyed. The juxtaposition of old sentimental paradigms coupled with outrageous new possibilities just seems clunky. Also, everyone, and I mean everyone, got screen time. There was no time to develop affection or interest for the characters.
