Are people being paid to give this show 4-star reviews? The first 2 episodes have bored me to tears. You've got some of the "everyone's a 4th level blackbelt" action of Discovery mixed in with somewhat out-of-place f-bombs like in Game of Thrones, all baked inside a flaky crust of "what the hell am I even watching?" What is it about this show I'm supposed to find interesting? Most of the Romulans are indistinguishable from humans except for maybe foreman on the Borg "artifact" they're excavating. "Number 1" I think is a terrible name for the dog. I needed at least some sort of prologue, like at the beginning of DS9's pilot "Emissary" to help explain the connection between Picard and the aging Romulans he appears to be living with. I've already read that it's supposed to be connected to Spock's failed mission to save Romulus from its exploding star, tying it in with JJ Abrams' 2009 Star Trek movie. But I need this confirmed in the show. So Starfleet lost its way. Is this because of the Dominion War? Is this because of Section 31? Right now I've got scattered, disjointed tidbits splattered all over the screen which aren't filling me with anticipation about anything. So Data attempted to make another android offspring. I'm not 10 years old. I can't take things at face value. If androids are made in pairs, tell me why. Explain it to me somehow. I really had my hopes up. And sure, maybe it'll pick up down the road like DS9 did. But right now this show has fallen far short of my expectation.
Several more episodes in, and I'm still not liking this show. Am I supposed to be shocked and moved by all these characters from past Star Trek shows being violently killed off? Hugh was one of the characters I was looking forward to seeing often. But nah, let's kill him for dramatic effect and shock value. The story is weak. The production is sloppy. I don't need Gene Roddenberry Star Trek, or some version of a show I already like. I just need an intriguing show. Picard is not it.
