A fantastic depiction of 17th century Maratha warrior and right hand of Chhatrapati Shiwaji Maharaj. When Jijamata asks Shiwaji to conquer Kondhana ,the virtually unconquerable fort ,commanded by a fearsome Rajput Garrison commander Udaybhan Rathod ,on behalf of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb Alamgir,he choose Tanhaji Malusare.Rather the later himself chooses to lead the campaign ,notwithstanding impending festivities at his home in the form of his son's marriage. What follows is a fierce campaign on rugged and Rocky mountains in the pitch dark of the night. The film is a saga of loyalty, devotion to one's land and her cause, supreme sacrifice for motherland and human emotions. Ajay Devgn is tailor made for such intense characters .He just walks into the role of Tanhaji Malusare and lightens up the screen.Saif Ali Khan has evolved a lot and it is clearly seen in his mastering the role of fierce Udaybhan Rathod. He in my view is one of the most underrated and underused actor of Bollywood.Sharad Kelkar as Shiwaji and Luke Kenny as Aurangzeb leave a deep impact. Kajol has done full justice to the role of Savitribai ,so has Padmavati Rao with role of Jijabai .VFX and 3 D effects are brilliant and not OTT.A complete package of 'historical' proportions.A must watch..
