Unimpressed and Underwhelmed! This movie is so very flat and 2 dimensional! Phoenix does a terrible job at taking one of the most interesting men in history and making him uninteresting! The best acting performance was given by the actress who played Josephine! The cinematography is the best part of this film. This move tries to focus on too much! Scott should’ve taken a play from Spielberg when Spielberg only focused on the fight of the 13th amendment when trying to cover Lincoln. We only see Napoleon as a marble man; we never engage his humanity. The screenplay is a failure. Napoleon left a mound of correspondence to many people. Many angles could have been developed from his correspondence. Most Americans won’t be familiar with this history, not enough context is provided, which a more narrow focus would have been more helpful! Sadly, this movie is a glossy coffee-table book that looks pretty but ultimately is uninteresting!

You fans are not giving this a chance. Shame on you for rating this one star. Any new series needs time to mature. People have gotten to used to GRRM GOT and books. They are 2 different styles of fantasy. HOD and GOT and the books are set upon narrow humanistic desires, and they convey a much smaller backdrop of just a paltry human drama. Tolkein was more intrested in telling truly epic myths that were more archetypal in nature and aimed at the narrative of monumental epic stories that were more intrested in investigating the destruction of the entire universe than just the survival of the human race or a specfic human noble house. This series has so much potential, and I believe that it will find its legs. I love the feel of the more ancient Middle Earth and the newness of the world that this series conveys. The pieces are getting into place, and Morfydd Clark is a powerhouse actress that will carry this entire series. I will take Tolkien over Martin every day of the week, and I love GRRM.
