I loved this moody Celtic Gaelic existential film for all its almost packed-in cluster of ethnic symbol reminders of how extremely existentially moody the Irish can get. Colin Farrell and the rest of the cast are everso Irish, and Catholic Irish in this case, as the film progresses. Deceptively simple, this film is the best introduction I've ever seen in any film to the unique existentialism of the Gaelic (both Irish and Scot) that is very distinct from the ethnic existentialism of the Celtic Brythonic Welsh, Cornish, and Bretons. This particular ethnic-flavored tragicomedy is subtly outstanding and Colin Farrell has come a long way in his career although I'm sure he felt at home in his intensely-Irish role.
