i think most of the criticism of the show really comes from lack of an open mind. once the show develops around the third episode any rushed moments from the initial episodes make sense. unfortunately the viewer ratings being so low is most likely down to homophobia despite the fact that it doesn’t take away any major airtime from the continuation of the originals legacy.
