This is a fun movie! It’s quirky and weird, a delightful sing-along, and the music is mostly spectacular. For me the new song by Taylor Swift didn’t fit in, and I didn’t think she had the vocal chops to pull off Macavity, but otherwise I thought it was terrific! My companion — who expected to not like it — had a fun time, sang along at times (it’s easy to pick up) and declared several times “This is not that bad!” when reflecting on the trash reviews it got. He thinks it’s getting the short end of the stick. I agree. My theory on those trash reviews is that 1. people love to hate things, and also that 2. news sources shouldn’t send professional reviewers to review genres they don’t like. If I were a reviewer then according to me there would be no good action movies.
