This version of Little Women was a slap in the face to all or us who grew up loving the book. I felt appalled and betrayed. Do not, and I repeat, do not, show this film to children as anything at all like the book. Seeing the March sisters as rich enough to buy ball gowns and attend dances was an insult to the memory of Louisa May Alcott and the hardships the March girls endured that made them into the women they became. I had asked my husband to watch it with me thinking that I would be exposing him to a great story. I was so embarrassed that I turned it off rather than let him think that Louisa May Alcott's wonderful book was so trivialized. I hated even to have to give this version one-star.
