In the words of the brillaint Captain: "Good Lord!"
A wonderfully crafted, lighthearted comedy. The definition of the perfect comfort show.
As with the origins of this ensemble in their time on Horrible Histories, Ghosts will similarly keep you in this neverending rapid-fire of laughter, as well as the occasional tender moments to anchor and make the series as a whole all the more rewarding to watch.
If you'll forgive me the pun, this show has so much soul.
It is very easy to tell that this was not only a labour of love but also a labour of pure joyfulness in what they do - in terms of both the acting and writing, Ghosts has some of the best seen in modern British television. Each charater is charming and flawed but so very lovable that you cannot help but be endeared to them soon after meeting them. The respective stories, revealed over the course of the entire series, range from bittersweetly humerous to somehow heartwarming to frankly entirely tragic - yet it is all grounded in this wonderful, lighthearted yet sometimes profound setting that never ceases to remind the characters (and perhaps the viewers) that they are not alone.
I've only just finished the final season, and it has left me with both a distinct contentedness for having seen this delightful story all the way from its establishment to its completion, yet it has also left me with a partially mournful feeling; that I do not think I shall find a show quite like this (lighthearted but soulful and wholesome) in British television for quite some time yet.
Definitely something to be revisited over and over again.
