Usually a huge fan, and have loved this series throughout. My god though, what an effort it was to wade through this one. What could have been a fascinating snapshot of Georgian history was just a tedious tale of looms (so many sorts!), unjust laws and villainous mill owners. The characters weren’t engaging at all, and it says something when you finish a book and you’re still not sure who is who. The only bit that came alive was the penultimate chapter where we travelled to Waterloo but other than that it was just dull. Also very curious as to why he had to finish the book on such a bum note, seems he is just trying to pander to the woke squad
