Paul Gillin

This is a quirky storyline for a sitcom with an overweight, middle-aged bachelor falling for a young Nigerian nurse. I didn’t expect to like it but have become a dedicated fan. Folake Olowofoyeku is marvelous as Abishola, playing a character this is alternately tender and steely. Billy Gardell is a seasoned comedy actor with a gift for wisecracks. But what really makes this show work is Abishola’s family. They don’t quite get Bob, or American culture in general, and they betray their disdain with deadpan hilarity. Barry Shabaka Henley is especially wonderful as Uncle Tunde.
