What a lovely surprise! I don’t understand why so many professional reviewers disliked this film. It’s light, witty, beautifully acted and thoroughly enjoyable. I recently read Jane Austen’s novel Persuasion and honestly, it’s quite heavy going, with very little dialogue, none of it memorable, and quite a lot of characters, several with the same name. But it’s supposed to be a comedy and that’s exactly what this version brings to life. The story is actually very true to the book. And the deliberately modern dialogue, with the heroine constantly telling her story to the camera, works very well. Watch, and enjoy!
