I enjoyed this book and rated it a 5/5 because it kept me entertained and thoughtful every time I started a new chapter. Although it was hard to understand at first due to the complex way it was set up, after getting used to the way it’s written, you start to see how the author is putting things in a certain ‘way’ purposefully. It’s intricate and cleverly written- exploring language in a clever way.
Demane is our strong and wonderful main character who has been hired with fellow warriors to defend a caravan along its journey traversing the ‘Wildeeps’. The characters are all wonderfully unique- each of them with different backgrounds (languages and cultures, etc… which is not often seen in fantasy unfortunately as it's very much dominated by whiteness). But the most important thing to mention is how this group is loyal to each other, and we get to see Demane’s relationship progress with his brothers-in-arms (and his lover) as they proceed on this difficult mission. This is something I especially like to see in fantasy, especially if it’s a good mix of personalities which made me grow attached to the characters as they traversed along.
I refrain from mentioning more due to the fear of spoiling the book- but if you’re deciding to give this a read, understand that it might take a bit to get used to the writing style. Otherwise, take your time to not only understand how the author is laying things out but most importantly pay close attention to what’s happening as the book progresses. Please enjoy reading it and do so with patience & an open mind!
