Utterly immersive. Didn’t know anything about it before watching other than it was a love story across a gorge - so holy fek! Sensational! Love both these actors and they were brilliant. What a novel story. I think they reveal far too much of the movie in trailers these days so my advice? Stop watching trailers completely. It’s great to be surprised. This is now in my top ten of all time movies.

Good storylines but gaping holes and a very badly cast female lead detective. Anna Friel’s face did not move AT ALL. We tried not to laugh out loud when she was meant to be conveying horror or anger or disgust but her face was so frozen, it was comical. You could see her desperately trying. Whatever she’s had done, her top lip didn’t move and it affected her speech. Why do that to yourself? We want to see that emotion and the lines and the experience, not a wooden puppet. Did she really win an Emmy for that? I just wish actresses realised that looking like a plastic mannequin makes people turn off, and series come to an early end. And what a message to convey to the next generation. That you have to plasticise your face and deny that human beings get old. As for the character she played, I wish female leads weren’t constantly portrayed as weak, broken and hysterical. She had zero redeeming qualities, not an iota of warmth and I couldn’t care less what happened to her. In fact I was rooting for everyone, even her kids, to get away from her. She played a corrupt cop who seemed to get away with everything but the story was just too sloppy and disjointed at times to care. I’d like to have seen Edward’s arc play out- the writers were clearly portraying him as being in the early stages of turning into a psychopath or serial killer. Haven’t watched series 3 so it might have been addressed there? Maybe the last series would also explain why on earth Mark was stalking her, what happened to poor Tim who was framed, and how she could get away with everything she did such as swapping DNA, burying bodies, and physically assaulting her husband amongst a million other things. Not for me.

Very pleasantly surprised by Dakota Johnstone’s charisma and English accent. Loved the fleabag talking to camera moments. However truly terrible (non-existent) chemistry between her and Jarvis (Wentworth) - the latter acted so woodenly and unconvincingly, that I was extremely bored. Isn’t the character in the book meant to be dashing? He looked so uncomfortable acting in a period drama. I couldn’t root for them to get together at all. The interaction was cold and frankly boring. Anne had much better chemistry with her cousin. Writing this as I’m watching it, and about to turn off.

Only watched it for Tom Ellis from Lucifer. The small role didn’t do him justice. He’s such a good actor, not sure why he’d take this on. The story centres around a 33 year old woman and her male friends who make plays (AKA intricate cons) to trick people into bed. They take turns to do so with the target being the prize for whoever’s turn it is. It’s uncomfortable viewing when you see people targetted like that based on their looks. I mean - how do you pitch that storyline? Gina Rodriguez is responsible for coming up with the plays but if it were a man doing it, you’de call him a predator. She is a very good actress and her talent shows, but this movie, which I did watch to the end unfortunately just to see Tom, wasn’t for me.

Spoilers ahead: The last Happy Families scene ruined it for me. Was just about holding on till that point. So ridiculous given everything that had happened. Ie everyone (including the kids) sitting laughing round a table just 6 months after their dad Chris, has been arrested; Zoe has clearly forgiven her estranged daughter (Sandrine) despite the multiple evil things Sandrine has done including trying to kill a couple of people (yet Zoe is unwilling to forgive her father for a well intentioned mistake); and Raye’s pregnancy that her parents would kick her out for? Well Raye, the baby and her parents are part of this happy gathering, cooing over the baby. The actress that played Zoe didn’t ring true in her role at all. Wooden acting and when her stepdaughter has just been found unconscious in the woods, having been knocked by Sandrine, she (Zoe) is calmly sipping a cup of tea looking out at the garden. Lots of medical errors too that a bit of fact checking would have helped avoid. That’s just sloppy. Who writes these dramas and doesn’t proof check them?

Katie Holmes was brilliant in this. Loved the fact the Sherriff accepted her, warts and all. Just the right amount of psychosis for me. 😁

The premise was interesting but overall was a bit textbook for autism traits, which are much more nuanced than portrayed. Laura Fraser (DI Bea) didn’t work for me in the role - for supposedly a seasoned detective, she expressed shock, horror and disbelief far too often. More like a member of the public. And I couldn’t believe her 5 feet 2 frame could take down burly tall men. Liked the idea but the pairing didn’t gel for me. Going to move on to something else.

Spoilers within: Really liked the first season but what on earth happened to season 2? Did they replace the directors, producers and editors with preschoolers? Full of nonsense edits (too many to mention), compressed timelines (in 1 episode mickey gets beaten up and seems not to be bothered by this at all, robbed, has several bones broken, 2 minutes later he’s recovered and getting his cast off, then immediately goes back to court, wins a case, has sex with wife number 2, 30 seconds later she tells him she’s moving away and 10 seconds later he’s having breakfast with his daughter talking about how wife 2 has settled in). And what’s with all the close up shots of Lorna’s legs? Andi the prosecutor was an odd choice. She acted a mean girl cartoon version of her character with over exaggerated smugness, yet became teary and emotional in front of the jury. Felt like I was watching a pantomime. As for Cisco and Lorna - ZERO chemistry. I mean so zero it was painful. Were they going for beauty and the beast? Can’t see them being together at all. And their wedding was rushed and followed by a party that was flat and looked incredibly boring. Unable to handle the raspy voices of Cisco and the cop so forwarded through their scenes but they can’t help that so it’s just me. I liked Manuel who plays Mickey. He has a slow smile, a handsome face and plenty of charisma. Loved the mixed accent. and there was great chemistry between him and wife 2 (Neve Campbell) who was very good in this role. Until in the space of a minute, she had a passionate night with him, told him she was leaving, left and settled into San Diego and everyone was fine with it. She was clearly written out. I read somewhere she went on to do another show but it didn’t work out. Please come back Neve! Don’t get me started on the real time courtroom speeches in this series, fell asleep several times —-yaaaaaawn! Dull story, sloppy and inexperienced editing and production. Won’t be watching season 3.

Oh dear. Zero chemistry (I’d give it negative marks if I could). Couldn’t see why they had been together, or any reason for them to get back together. Nothing in common at all. Didn’t like the female lead at all - she acted the part blandly - terrible casting choice. Dull plot if you can call it that. Shame that Robbie agreed to do this film as I like him as an actor. I watched this film because of him but turned it off 3/4 of the way through. That’s how bad it was, I couldn’t be bothered seeing the end as had no interest whatsoever if they got back together or not.

Would give it zero if I could. Both leads unbelievably bad - bland, no chemistry, botox and plastic surgery galore. Acted out like a ham children’s pantomime. Was LL meant to in her 20s? I wish folk would stop saying she’s a good actress. She had 1 or 2 films at the start of her career which were good but time to stop dining out on that. This one isn’t even worthy of a hallmark stamp. There must be so many good actors out there desperate to show off their talents. Just watched holiday in the vineyard on Netflix, a much better Xmas movie and didn’t know any of the actors. But hey they could act. Kind of a prerequisite I would think.
