Oh boy so much to say about this film. I wanted so badly for it to be good, but it just wasn’t. I’ll say I’m sure what a few others have so forgive me. They did not remake the original; one point. They did not change much though; minus one. (Also don’t call it The Crow. Rename it for god’s sake). There is nothing happening in the first hour and 20 minutes and by then I was almost asleep. The story was there but the layout/storyboarding was subpar. The dialogue was shit which made Bill have to work that much harder (which he did) to perform well. I have nothing against FKA twigs or whatever her name is but she was the wrong cast for her role as Shelly, sorry. Parts that needed to be drawn out weren’t and vice a versa. Minimal character development and I felt little to no connection with the also absent connection between Eric and Shelly making it hard to care about her and later Eric’s thirst for blood. They tried a bit too hard with over the top violence but then some scenes Eric maybe punched a dude twice and that was that. There was no symmetry to the film. Where does he get all his bougie hipster clothes? Why does he have on the same outfit he dies in but Shelly doesn’t? Just some synchronicity would have been nice. Also the MUSIC SUCKED!! Good god don’t pick out songs with lyrics for s film like this. Especially ones that are relatively pitched to inflect inspirational emotion when this film isn’t inspirational. The only song that came close to having a melancholic feel and was played at the appropriate time was the Enya one. I didn’t love this film and I didn’t hate it I’m just really disappointed because it had the potential to be sooooo much better than it really was. Okay, I’m done now.
