The gameplay and world design were terrific.

One of the most beloved characters in video game history dies because of poor storytelling.
Half the game forces you to play as a character that can screw herself.
The writing team tries hard to get you to love this character, but she is still trash.
The ending was awful, and the entire journey meant nothing.
The last of us part one was a masterpiece. It wasn't the action or the graphics that made the game my favorite of all time, but the story. The relationship between Joel and Ellie had me fully immersed in the world.
As a player, I didn't experience an immersive story in the last of us part two. I dreaded playing the back-half of the game, but I stuck with it, hoping the ending could redeem the story. It did not, and I will try my best to forget the last of us part two ever existed.
