I was hoping that the two mysteries would relate to each other. Like the writer knew someone was going to murder him, so he left clues in his book about who murdered him. It would be like 3D chess where you have to combine ideas from different levels. BUT it was more like "I was reading a book and it went like this. Then I was walking down the street and I solve a mystery. Then I went back and finished my book. The end." So very, very lame and disappointing.
