i just finished this book today. when i first saw this novel, i noticed right away that the cover to “a thousand boy kisses” was a beautiful mason jar decorated with some cherry blossoms, and a heart. it seemed to me like a cute romance novel. i got started right away. and within the first, (maybe) 20 pages i was sobbing. i don’t want to give away any major details, but the message in this novel is so, so, so, incredibly beautiful. it truly does come full circle. this book showed what true, unmistakable, wholehearted love looks like. i don’t think i’ve ever read anything that had made me cry this much. yes, of course it was devastatingly sad in many spots, but so much of this book focused on the positive aspects of life. throughout the course of the book, poppy never fails to keep a positive perspective toward life. it’s something that a lot of us could use nowadays.
something about the way this heartbreaking story is told, i cant exactly put my finger on it, makes me believe that there is a bigger picture. the way that rune was there to help poppy, and in the end of the novel how poppy helps rune. the way that rune and poppy’s separation ultimately brought them closer together, (not once, but twice).
this is a love story that is truly going to take me a while to recover from. please read this.
