Steve on Friday sept6 you mention you memtioned your roommates 3 of them were white at college. I had the same experience almost. I live in the north. I attended a Christian college in the south. This was late 70's when I arrived heard what sounded like black people. I sat there and cried thinking I was at a black college. Now you have to remember what the 70s were like. I was in the riots. Not as a participant. It was a scary time for me being white. I was attacked one time. So with that background I was scared. I walked out in the hall. Here were white and black students talking in their southern accent. I had major culture shock. I went on to have black and white friends which continues to this . Thanks for bringing this up.
