Let them. This book is extremely repetitive and sets the stage for some negative relationship results around the let them theory. This theory explores the concept of letting everyone act as they want and allowing yourself to choose to not engage in anyone else’s wellbeing or daily ins and outs. Exploring others positives and negatives is what makes us learn and strengthen relationships and well as solidifies relationships by setting personal boundaries. Part of life and having healthy relationships is both setting boundaries for yourself and respecting others boundaries and supporting and engaging in different relationships. The let them philosophy suggests letting people you engage with to do whatever they want and you choose to ignore behaviors that you are not happy with. Sure, it is great to apply the let them theory when you are sitting in traffic and someone honks at you, in line at the grocery store, etc. This can also be explained as don’t sweat the small stuff. Towards the middle of the book, Mel spends several chapters outlining her own immature behaviors and categorizes the reader and all others in the same light. I had a hard time with this portion of the book and applying these concepts to my myself and everyone else- life is not one size fits all, everyone is different.
