I enjoyed this book. There were some unexpected turns here and there. I personally don’t know much about the Haitian culture, so I enjoyed getting what I assume to be just a small bit of knowledge on it. I do wish some of the characters were more developed. Like Mantant Jo and Uncle Q and even Manman. I just felt like there was so much information we were missing. I also feel like the ending was a bit abrupt. The entire time I was reading and getting closer to the end, I kept thinking “I can’t be almost done already” because it never felt like it was coming to an end. I also wish the writing style was a bit more mature since it is a Young Adult novel. I do feel that without the language, it could’ve been something that I read in early high school. Overall, I did feel attached to some of the characters, like Kasim and Donna. I just feel like there was some things that could’ve been tweaked for me to personally like it better.
