Nolen Borne

Excellent world-building, compelling characters and a unique story. The world created by the author is so rich and easy to visualize, and I find myself wanting to be transported back there in another book! Hopefully this becomes a series. My only criticisms: some of the characters seem kind of flat compared to the very well-written protagonist. I do also wish there was a bit more structure to the system of magic, as some spells/magic can feel a bit dues ex machina at times. I will also say, I picked this book up as I heard the author usually writes horror and that this book was scary; I did not find it scary but I personally have a high tolerance for horror as it’s my favorite genre.
