I'm not usually one for romantic dramas, but this adaptation of David Nicholls' 2009 novel is excellent TV, and head and shoulders above the earlier film version. This 14 episode Netflix drama has yound co-stars, but both bring this coming of age story to life ably backed by a strong supporting cast. Highly recommended and a killer soundtrack !

Gave up after four episodes. Michelle Keegan is bobbins. I've seen better acting underwater.

I watched this with trepidation because I'm not a huge musical fan, although I adore WS Story and like some others, but this film is not about a musical. It's a story about an auteur who's life is singularly motivated by producing musicals which speak to his generation. It's structure is one of a normal drama interspersed with occasional 'musical' scenarios, so for those of you who despair of such things I suggest you park that objection and stick with it. The film is packed with great performances, particularly from the lead. I was surprised by the quality of the music and lyrics (I was unaware of Jonathan Larson) so this was a real treat. Recommended

I'm surprised this is getting so many great reviews. The acting is good, but it's not knitted well together and having Vietnam War scenes without younger actors paying the main roles is bizarre. I think it's an average Spike Lee movie. Maybe the generous reviews are influenced by the current Black Lives Matter protests.
