I enjoyed the novel immensely. It's a piece of historical storytelling, a coming of age story, and a road story. It's filled with complex characters who are capable of surprising readers throughout the tale. It's derivative, but in a good way. For me it was like Holden Caulfield meets Dean Moriarty on the way to Oz. Billy, we're not in Nebraska anymore.

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre is a great movie regardless of your expectations. It is a highly entertaining adventure film. It offers wonderfully drawn characters confronting their greed and their weaknesses. Like many post war movies it has a cynicism running through the action and the danger keeping us aware that there's little probability that things will end up well. There's a bit of humor for flavor, such as Howard's impromptu dance when he realizes the amount of gold that's available and most famously the opinion of "Badges" offered by Gold Hat. The on location production adds authenticity to the production. Probably a perfect movie.

Great show. Characterization, exploration of culture, relationships and personal strength and weakness are first rate. Musical score and visuals are beautiful but don't overwhelm the narrative. Highly recommend.
