SPOILERS.
this show is so amazing i literally do not have words. it’s extremely addicting to watch, so much so that I finished the whole series in 4 days, which is a new record for me. the casting diversity, proper portrayal of a neurodivergent character, and realistic + sweet gay relationship were spectacular, and honestly a super rare find in a netflix show. the characters were incredibly well developed and personable, and it had a really good plot line that I was super invested in. also, the development of wilhelm and simons relationship was very well done - it didn’t feel pushy or over-stereotyped, and it moved at a perfect pace (where you could sense the tension and were anticipating the first move, but it didn’t drag to the point of annoyance). I thought the actual communication between wilhelm and simon really sealed the deal too. instead of having big blowup fights about everything, which is very common in teen shows surrounding relationships, they were able to express how they were feeling and what they both wanted very clearly and without dismissing the others’ opinions. to me this was especially demonstrated with their final “breakup” scene, because simon was able to set his boundaries without forcing wilhelm to come out before he was ready, and wilhelm was able to accept them and recognize that he had hurt him. lastly, the descriptions of sexuality and the purposeful lack of a label for wilhelm were just so nice to see. it’s not often that you get mainstream media shows where a character doesn’t have to find the ‘perfect’ label and go through a eureka coming out moment. obviously that’s still perfectly valid as well, but it’s important to have variety within our representations of queer relationships! also it was cool to see simon comfortable in his own identity.
that was lengthy, but the main reason i’m doing this is because we’re all really hoping for more seasons! netflix if u see this please renew it or we might all die of withdrawal.
