'Wake Up Dead Man' opens with a narrative buildup that feels slightly draggy, though one cannot help but wonder if the pacing was intentional and designed to lull viewers before the plot sharpens and the murder unfolds.
While the mystery largely delivers, the casting of Jeremy Renner as Dr Nat felt like an early giveaway. As the most recognisable face among a largely lesser-known ensemble (the line of suspects), his presence subtly tipped the scales and hinted at deeper involvement. A more evenly-matched cast, either equally famous or equally obscure, might have preserved the mystery more effectively.
Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc remains a standout. Craig slips effortlessly into the role once again, anchoring the film with charm, wit, and precision. As an avid crime-show fan, I found myself predicting much of the murder-heist fairly early on, though credit is due for a twist that still managed to surprise me. It struck a middle ground, neither fully predictable nor entirely mysterious.
That said, the film’s theatrical delivery was strong and confident. It carries a noticeably different vibe from the previous installments, yet never to its detriment.
Would I still watch future Knives Out movies? Absolutely.
