Ummm, a long, long watch! Hunnam and Malek don’t quite have the chemistry of McQueen and Hoffman, although Malek is brilliant as Degas! Too much middle distance gazing and shower room scraps from Hunnam. The scenery and sets are amazing, you get the claustrophobia from the prison and jungle and the openness of Devils Island with the sea so tantalisingly close. But it’s still an escape/ capture/escape, film, with an ending that just doesn’t fit. Stick with the original!!
