while i did like some elements of this series, it's filled with so much inauthenticity that left me not loving it. and i felt that was mostly due to its production, which was clueless on more that one occasion: early on the family has a crab feast, which is common along the Maryland coast, but instead of eating the sort of crabs that are native to the mid-Atlantic they eat King Crab Legs which are not found along the Maryland shore. this wouldn't have happened in this region where Blue Crabs are . . . "king". i should've stopped watching then and there but i did like the various story lines the different family members (and the family itself) lead, especially the music / musician angle of character Trace Riley, but that was even flawed when closeup shots in the local night club revealed that whoever was directing and setting up the shots knew nothing about how live sound is done. several shots show the soundboard on but no channels turned up. amplifiers were shown on stage with on power lights showing, meaning they weren't even plugged in. and they constantly MICd acoustic guitars in full-band settings with an SM57 on them, but these days, especially with a loud full band, no mic would be used. instead acoustic guitars have pickups that are plugged in directly, which is the "industry standard" for that sort of thing. it's a shame that details like these weren't done with consultation of pretty much any Maryland local or average performing musician, who would have known these things weren't done correctly. and one more thing - i can't count the number of scenes where various actors were holding and pretending to drink from coffee cups that were clearly empty. i know that's commonly done in film but these actors should practice doing this with more authenticity - or just put something in the darn cups already! but all that said, the show and its actors tell interesting stories that are drenched in Hallmark cheese.
