Am a fan of the anime back from 1998. With this live action reboot, I think they missed the mark.
The core essence of the original series, and what made it great (in my opinion), was the strength and intelligence of the characters, each one with their own human flaws.
In the remake, the 'good guys' are bumbling around, ruled by their emotional baggage. The 'bad guy' is an bumbling idiot, ruled by his emotions. In the original series all the characters had their own flaws and issues, but it didn't dominate them, it made them stronger as a person, for better or worse.
If you don't compare this remake to the original, you could say it's ok (sorta). But it doesn't live up to the legacy.
