I haven't read the komik since I'm more of an anime lover. I grew up watching anime and honestly, I enjoyed it. I don't know how much of the original concept from the Komik is being adapted but almost all adaptations are not really following the entire storyline. One example is how devastated we were with how the GoT TV series went through and it wasn't entirely following the book. This is not the first time that Philippine folklore is being introduced on screen. If you are a fan of Grimm TV Series, they had an entire episode tackling about Philippine folklore so people outside the Philippines had a little bit of a background about it but Trese would give them a more detailed information of the folklore. It's main genre is horror mixed with fantasy and magic, and as fan of fantasy genre, I appreciate the fact how they combine both genre into one animated series or story/komik. I am even surprised that they tackle about mythology. I've been wanting to write a story line about Philippine mythology when I was younger and still had the passion to write. Trese gives me the Shadowhunters/Grimm/Harry Potter vibe. If in books, I would have this in line with the works of Rick Riordan and Clary Fray. Actually, it would be fun to have this in books too! It was kinda messy at the beginning but I love how the characters got introduced slowly and with a massive number of characters like that, we cannot finish all of them in one series but I'm pretty sure they will be introduced on the upcoming seasons. It's usual to have a villain that seems to be too powerful to defeat with in every anime season and they are necessary to have the main character to develop into someone stronger everytime that villain got defeated. Lengthy scripts are usual in an anime when they're talking about flashbacks and their real intentions so I don't mind about it really, I'm used to it. We do need it to understand what their real intentions are and to give us the bombing truth. The villains always knew better than us with what the whole truth was. I don't really care who are doing all the voicing but if you are going to ask me in which language I watched it, in a Japanese language 'coz I'm more comfortable that way as someone who watched animes and I love the fact that Trese is available in three languages. Netflix is an American brand and as much as we would like to have an entire pure Filipino to do all the work, it won't be happening so soon and we cannot force them to do so. They see the Treseverse in a bigger picture, a bigger audience, and honestly, some viewers tend to look on the casting and that's business/marketing, people. By the end of the day, the producers and Netflix wanted to have their money back. Let us just be happy that majority of the people behind Trese are Filipino and Filipino-Americans, and learn to appreciate the effort of the Producers and Netflix for doing such! So to all Filipinos out there, please support Trese! It's time to support and just be proud to have an anime adapted from a Filipino Komik streamed in a Netflix platform. This would open doors to other Filipino Komiks. That could be so exciting and something to look forward to, ayt?
