This is one of the better books by Grisham that I have read. There's plenty of rip-roaring outdoor adventure, plus all the lawyer nastiness we expect from this author. However, it is at its heart a redemption story, and an exploration of how God can use even a terrible sinner toward good goals.
Although some readers felt let down by the ending, I thought it was almost perfect. Every person in the story, even the bad ones, got the earthly reward they'd longed for; and because Grisham took time to develop their characters and tell us what they really wanted, it felt like the right one for them.
