Is this series beautiful to look at? Yes. Will I continue to watch until the end? Yes, but I will doing so in spite of myself as everything else about this series is leaving me entirely confused and underwhelmed when I was really expecting to be whelmed.
Dickie and Marge are together why? They both seem tired, bored, listless. Where is the joie de vivre? Where is the desire? And 'old' Tom Ripley, where oh where is the charm? How is getting by as a con-man without a personality?
The dialogue between all characters is exactly that, dialogue. The wording is stilted, awkwardly paused and lacking soul. Why any of these people are drawn to spend time with each other is beyond me.
At the same time though, why are Marge and Freddie so instantly hostile to Tom? Yes, he gives absolutely no reason for anyone to like him at all but the overt hostility without other cause is odd.
I am not going to mention Dickie's paintings.
I am on episode two, here's hoping for some semblance of charm or personality in episode three.
