I am going to give it five stars because it's 3:48 AM and it doesn't have any reviews (in this way I feel that putting my horribly written one is sort of degrading to the book, which is not benefitting from this comment in the least) and also, because why not. My other reasonings are that one; it's gay, so automatic points for that, two; one of the main characters is loosely based off of Oscar Wilde, the second main character based on Oscar Wilde's boyfriend (who the author knew which is pretty cool). Three; the first two pages were basically about loving yourself which was nice because a lot of books now a' days talk about the main character describing themselves as bland or even ugly when they are not, which is often unnecessary and I think discourages readers who may have insecurities about their "looks", so this was a nice change. Four; I generally like the writing and five; the fact that it's called The Green Carnation is a really sneaky way of basically putting a big, fat pride flag on the cover. If you know, you know...
As a side note, I hope I can delete this review because as of completion it is 4:02 and I am afraid my brain is not exactly at it's best, but who cares? ... I care. My future self will care. My pride as a human being is running down the drain as I speak. But aside from that, I think my work here is done (what work, you lousy--) and without further ado (what does that even mean? Where did that word come from?) enjoy the book.
