Claire Vokins – Google

Surprisingly better than I expected. No spoilers. For me, the fact this film was set majority in a concert with screaming kids was offputting, but actually it was made well enough, that the concert was very much in the background. Typically Shyamalan gave himself a cameo and of course this always feels stilted, but an expected part of the film...move past it quickly. I loved Josh Hartnett playing the role he did, and he did it well. It's suspenseful. Occasionally amusing. Felt like there may be a twist. I came out feeling it was more than the trailers had been giving us, which is a rarity. Go watch it, make up your own mind. But it certainly doesn't deserve the low ratings.

I love Alien. I want to love this, but I can't, yet. It's messy. It feels like the whole film was waiting for the last third to get going. Don't get me wrong, it's good. It's dark, it's oppressive, it has dread. But it just feels 'off'. The beginning was a little slow, some characters, I felt needed more time to let us know them better, or have less characters so we can get more depth of those left in it. It tickled at the sides of some throw backs, but if you haven't seen the films it's throwing back to, it felt like a weird aside. Maybe trying to fit too much into one film. If this is a beginning of a new era of Alien films, I really want it to find it's own line. Maybe it will grow on me.

Fun. Not to be taken seriously at all. A number of laugh out loud moments and a few *please stop* ones as well. Also Bryce Dallas Howard...love her! She will inspire a lot of women in this film. Body confidence!! Anyway, apparently the film is being panned by critics; I feel it's taking popshots at the genre and taking the p*as out of itself and I applaud it for that. If this is first of a series, I look forward to the next one.
