To be honest, I decided to watch this movie after enjoying the first official movie, Tangled. I approached it with high expectations, anticipating a continuation of the engaging plot, emotions, and character dynamics. Unfortunately, it didn't quite meet those expectations. While watching Tangled: Before Ever After, it didn't feel like a seamless follow-up to the previous movie.
I had hoped the story would delve into Rapunzel's parent efforts to strengthen her bond with her, Given Rapunzel's extended captivity by Gothel, Her family has, unfortunately, missed crucial moments of caring for her since infancy. A vital aspect of parenting—their daughter upbringing—remains unexplored.
I envisioned poignant scenes of her parents trying to create new memories and spend quality time together while slowly to teach her the way of a princess after the forced separation. However, the movie didn't explore this aspect as much as I had anticipated.
Additionally, I noticed that the father's demeanor in this movie seemed somewhat peculiar, creating a feeling of disconnection. He doesn't seem to embody the same character we saw in Tangled.
Moreover, despite Rapunzel and Eugene maintaining the same appearance and voices from the previous movie, it doesn't feel like we're witnessing the same characters. Their demeanor and the choices they make don't resonate as authentic to their established personalities,
This inconsistency added to the overall dissonance in the viewing experience.
While I must admit that the animation and art style are stunning, prompting me to give it 2 stars, I can't ignore that the plot falls short of greatness.
