I think this book merits some recognition for its originality and compelling action. The storyline kept my interest even though the premise is a complete insult to logical reasoning.
The premise rests on the outcome of an actual war fought over abortion. The agreement they come to that ends the war is that abortion is not allowed but during the teen years, the kids' guardians can opt to "unwind" the child, which means the child's body is cut to pieces and transplanted to other people. With advanced transplant techniques, they are able to use every part of a person's body.
In the book, the pro-choice argument is completely distorted. Rather than it being presented as a desire for women to have a say over their own bodies, the driving desire behind the pro-choicers in the book is the desire to sell off the parts of their aborted babies. This is why they agree to this insane set up because being able to cut up their children when they are older is an option these demented people will accept.
While this premise completely distorts the real life motives of the pro-choice movements, it also explores some problems associated with the pro-life movement. For example, it exhibits the dismal fate of unwanted babies in a world where abortion is banned.
After reading this book, I'm left wondering at the twisted mind of its author. He appears to have no concept of the issues women face in pregnancy and childbirth since they play virtually no part in this book. He also seems to have a dismal concept of parental love and an ability to dismiss logic any time it gets in the way of his plot. He does, however, have a grasp on how to write well and present a story in a compelling way.
While I find the premise behind this book absolutely ludicrous, I don't know that I would say it is dangerous. It might just be so far out there that it makes anyone with a little common sense start asking questions.
