Living with her mother in Mumbai, Kalki believes that she is being observed day in, day out, and it is at night that her feeling is the most profound. Soon, she discovers the reason behind her premonition—she realises that the she can communicate with the dead and it is the spirits who watch her and try to reach out to her. We follow the heroine as she struggles to cope with her gift (is it actually a gift though?) and strives to understand the meaning behind life and death, while trying to strike a balance between her inner notions and love life. This book is Kalki's journey into the deep, seeking answers to the unknown in order to fulfill her life's purpose. The story is set in the contemporary world and takes the readers on a rollercoaster ride from the modern Mumbai to one of the oldest living cities in the world, Kashi (Varanasi). Off to a slightly slow start, the story accelerates around the middle, and the second part of the book, set in Kashi, is riveting. The author has combined two distinct genres of horror and romance to produce this work of fiction which is not just exciting but thrilling. Overall, it is a good read that keeps one on the edge of one's seat.
