I just saw this movie with my husband and brother in-law. We think the "professional" critics could get a clue from "Reagan" and most of all, the man himself.
You don't have to agree on everything, but if you listen and learn to discuss views, you can come to a common ground. The President did this time after time with all walks of life. Think of the relationship he had with Tip O'Neill who was Speaker of the House, yet the man respected and cared enough to come see President Reagan when he had been shot and actually prayed with him. They locked horns many times, but respect is a key topic in this movie. He truly personified working with both sides of the aisle. He was so human, smart cleaver, and witty. He was so well-read and well informed. Look what he did with Mikail Gorbachev. It took several meetings, but it ultimately changed the world.
The critics like the media generally cannot put their personal politics aside. It is just obvious. Like Hollywood, they have to now hate a man just because of the party he represents. Look instead at the man and what he accomplished. I am not a Democrat or a Republican. They no longer represent "We the people" in my eyes. Communism is lurking again, especially in politics and Hollywood. How we relive history!
My parents were Kennedy Democrats, but by the time I could vote, I had been seriously reading and studying Ronald Reagan. I was so impressed and excited to vote for him. Within a short amount of time after he took office, I was so proud of the decision I had made. This movie is so true!! I lived during this time and the pride of being an American gave you such an incredible feeling of patriotism. It is a Godly feeling. Doing things the right way for the right reasons.
Watching this movie made me feel that way again and I long for that for my grandchildren and their future. May Americans open their eyes, ears and hearts to what the meaning this movie conveys. Bravo to Dennis Quaid for his wonderful portrayal. Thank you to all involved!!
